Hand tied Wedding Bouquets

Choosing your wedding bouquet is an important decision. The bride often has an idea of what she would like and then after looking at the many wedding magazines and talking to people other ideas come along which seem worth considering. If you are looking for a soft, romantic look bouquet it may be a nice idea to look at hand tied wedding bouquets. One of the advantages of hand tied is that they are one of the easiest bouquets to make so you can actually have a go at making them before hand to give you an idea of how you want it to look. If after a few attempts you feel confident you can always decide to make you own for the big day! Otherwise if you are feeling slightly less brave you can show the florist what you would like and then you could always make your bridesmaids bouquets. As your wedding day approaches you will find that everything is being done by someone else and you might like the chance to have a task yourself.

There are three basic ideas to start with when considering hand tied wedding bouquets; a striking single flower bouquet, a mass of colourful flowers creating a ‘just picked’ look or if it is for a bridesmaid a simple collection of buds and just opening blossoms.

In all cases hand tied look best with a luxurious ribbon binding the flowers together and with long tails floating as the bride and/or bridesmaids head down the aisle. When you choose your flowers remember to choose a ribbon colour as well! The warm hues of red and orange are amongst the most popular as these are associated with romance and also stand out well against a white or off white wedding dress. If you are having hand tied for your brides mains and they are wearing coloured dresses you could always give them a paler shade of ribbon to contrast with their dresses rather than match your own bouquet.

For hand tied consisting of a single flower, the most common is the rose. This is usually surrounded with green leaves or a lace creating a collar effect on the flowers and then the ribbon is tied holding the ‘collar’ over the rose stems. If you are looking at using lots of colourful flowers then a solid, rich colour is a good idea for the ribbon as this will stop your hand tied from looking too fussy. For the flower girls or bridesmaids hand tied you can mixand match colours and styles so long as the overall impression is dainty. To make hand tied you will need to choose your flowers and foliage, ensure that you have more flowers than you expect to need and also that they are long stemmed. You will then need a yard or so of string and the ribbon to decorate afterwards.

Now you just need to experiment with colours and blossoms to get the desired effect for your hand tied wedding bouquets.
